I visit STL every few years and always get an armload of pastries to take home. My family has been patronizing the place since the 1920's!!! Now a friend tells me that they are CLOSED. Is this true??? Oh, say it isn't so....

Yes, it is closed. A fifth owner bought the place in 2002 and tried to expand it to multiple stores. He didn't succeed.

Try McArthur's Bakery: there are two - a small one in Kirkwood on Lindbergh (just north of railroad station) and the big one in South County on Lemay Ferry Rd. Excellent.

I was at Soulard this afternoon and MacArthur's had a fabulous stand with yummy-looking pastries (instead of the usual soggy, fly-covered offerings at other similar stands). Two things I bought there were excellent. Thanks for the great suggestion!

I must admit that I haven't been there but Sauce and Citysearch both rate them very highly.

It used to be a wonderful place, but the last time I was there and noticed a Grade "B" sticker in the window I left never to return. It closed shortly thereafter.
