Well Mr. T, I for one will take your request seriously and provide some choices. Be advised, however, that romance is in the eye of the beholder. St. Louis, like all cities, has restaurants where ordinary food detracts from promising ambiance. They will not make my list.

Some would be perfect for romantic outdoor dining on a spring evening: Bar Italia, Liluma, Malmaison, Norton's, Zinnia. (Budget recommendations: Lagniappe's or Broadway Oyster Bar)

Some have giant booths or little nooks where semi-privacy (or its illusion) can be had: An American Place, Cafe Bellagio, King Louie, (even Dressel's and O'Connell's Pubs and Bueberry Hill can offer this on a budget).

Chez Leon seems romantic because French Bistros always are romantic and I Fratellini is the Mediterranean-Italian counterpart.

Some restaurants are just "special"; where great food and service insure a memorable time. Along with some already mentioned which would certainly qualify in this category, I recommend Arthur Clay's, Cafe de France, The Crossing, Harvest, The Grill at the Ritz-Carlton, Pomme, Sidney Street Cafe, and Top of the Riverfront (timing it for sunset).

Good luck on making a choice, but remember, the better the romance, the less important the location. The most romantic moments in life are those where the surroundings melt away and your world is only as big as the space you and your partner share.
