KC's best burgers

Rattail Feb 1, 2005 04:36 PM

I'm surprised how many people have never tried Town Topic in Kansas City! I'm pretty much a vegetarian now, but Town Topic (or as some call it, "Town Toxic") always was superior to any burger I'd ever had anywhere. The one on Broadway, the only one open all night, is way better than the one a couple of blocks from there (on Baltimore). I love the shredded grilled onions they pile on there when you ask for extra. I was in there recently for onion rings (a new menu item) and those are good too.

I've never been to Town Topic, even though my office for the last 11 years is only 2 blocks away.

My favorite burger in KC is from the Hereford House in downtown. It's the big, thick kind. Cook it medium rare, it's better than a steak. The juices just drip down your arms.

it's north of the river but Hayes Hamburgers And Chili has a much better burger than town topic... same style small cheap and covered in onions

It's all in what you're looking for. I haven't been to Town Topic in a few years, but I remember loving the thin, crispy patties and the dirt-cheap prices. Not to mention the whole open-all-night thing -- a Godsend for someone taking night classes! I'll have to go back and try the onion rings. Love that diner ambiance.

When I'm in the mood for a thick, juicy burger, I like Westport Flea Market. They use great meat from McGonigle's. McCoy's bbq buffalo burger is addictive, too.

I thought I would revive this thread. Anyone have any suggestions?

My favorite is L.C.'s Hamburgers all the way! I'm a medium hamburger kind of girl and they do it just right! Love the grilled onions on them as well.

For a bit fancier burger, I like 1924 Main's burgers. My favorite so far has been a bacon, bleu cheese, and balsamic aioli- I talked my dad into driving here from Topeka one day for lunch just for that burger! ;-) It wasn't too difficult!

Burgers are a passion of mine if you take a look at my profile!
