I know this is a less than chowish request, but my wife and I have plans to go to dinner with friends this weekend and she, of friends, is on a low carb diet. Now, I don't understand any diet, but it is proving quite difficult to think of a low-carb friendly place that will pan out for the rest of us. Any suggestions out there?

Try any of the Bosnian restaurants in South St. Louis--Bosna Gold (on Gravois) & Grbic (on Meramec) are 2 that come to mind. While they don't have "official" low carb items/menu, Bosnian restaurants are *heavy* on the meat, esp. lamb and beef (rarely pork, since these folks are usu. Muslims).

A Bosnian restaurant is a vegetarian's nightmare. But if you like veal or lamb, these are great places. Don't forget the coffee. These folks really know how to do coffee.

You know, I am not familiar with all the absolutes of the low-carb diet, but it seems that anywhere that has some very meat-heavy entrees would probably do. I think that most of the 'family-friendly' chain places have a lot of low carb items, but I don't exactly love most of the family-friendly chain places.
I would probably recommend Iron Barley. One of my favorite places to eat. Some very meat-heavy entrees, and the food is wonderful. They do a great green bean side item, I think green beans are okay for low-carb diets? The oak smoked pork is amazing. www.ironbarley.com The menu is not extensive (if it can't be cooked in a cast-iron skillet, they don't make it...) but everything is very good. A friend of mine said the other day that it is the kind of place that makes you feel like you're eating something your mom made for you, if your mom was a really good cook.

Try Kreis' restaurant. They have a 32-ounce cut and a 64-ounce cut of prime rib. You don't get much more low-carb than that.
