My personal favorite is in La Crosse, The Hungry Peddler has a great Friday fish fry. It is a beer batter fish and also some of the best chicken I have had as well. When your seated you get an old fashioned vegatable dish and garlic toast and crackers in a big basket. The Friday special is both chicken and fish or either one. But I like to sample both.

Also try the French onion soup as well, one of my fav's.

Four of us ate at the Hungry Peddler this past Friday night. Fish fry was excellent. Broiled cod dipped in drawn butter was almost like lobster. Fresh rolls, relish tray, cole slaw all great. Well priced and well cooked steaks. Onion soup was good -- I've had better but still very tasty.

try rocky's supper club in stoddard, just south of la crosse on river road. nothing fancy, but good, plentiful, and fast, with emphasis on the good. just get there early to plan to spend some time at the bar with an old-fashioned or two.

that's where we'll be tomorrow night!

        Hi Mike,

Here are two places in La Crosse that I like to visit when I'm in town:

        Schmidty's Bar (608)788-5110
        Ardies (608)784-2242

From what I remember (it's been awhile), Schmidty's is a bar/restaurant, so it's always crowded and a bit smoky. I haven't been to Ardie's in a year or so, all I remember is that the fish was good. Oh, and do call beforehand to make sure the information is correct. Like I said, it's been awhile since I've been to LaCrosse.

        Enjoy your fish!
