Driving from Detroit to Grand Rapids - Any good food in between?

One of my favorite things to do on a road-trip is to eat. Second favorite is to find that roadside, or semi-roadside, restaurant, shop, or beef jerky stand and buy a tasty morsel to eat while driving.
Now, I know that my trip is not a real long road-trip, but I'll still get hungry and I'll still crave something besides chain food.

Does anyone have any good recs of placed for quality food (no McDonalds, BK, Wendy's, Arby's, etc) somewhere on my journey?

Oh what I wouldn't give for some quality, non-mass produced beef jerky... Sigh!

The next time you make the trip and are hankering for some "real" jerky, head west another 30 minutes past Grand Rapids to Holland. On the way to the state park on the North side Ottawa Beach Road (not far past River Ave) is a place that makes various kinds of jerky. As a vegetarian, I haven't had the chance to sample their wares, but the smell is almost enough to convert me to "carnivory."

When we make that trip we have two favorite spots, First is in Fowlerville, (next to the McDonalds, is a Truck Stop restaurant,I believe it has a blue roof..with real homemade food.. the chicken and noodles are out of this world.. home made bread.. and baking cookies all the time.. I suggest buying a bag of cookies for munching if you can't find good jerky.. they are delicious.. Also, jump off at Portland, go into the town, and on the main street, there is an OLD Hotel/Restaurant, called Fabino's... excellent food, reasonable, pizza is very good, if you order one with everything, It is about one inch thick with toppings... surprised us.. and the bar was moved from someplace in Detroit.. a very long time ago!!!

Next time at that restaurant in Fowlerville, try their cinnamon rolls - huge, warm, and delicious. D.

Go on into the downtown area and grab a "Goat Burger" at the Bloated Goat Saloon. Outstanding hamburgers. I've been eating them going on 25 years.
