My wife and I hit Polito's for the first time tonight, eager to avoid the TGIF's, Chili's, etc. directly across Grape Road. She had a triangle of New York-style with Italian sausage and a square of Sicilian with black olives. In both cases, the requested added ingredient was simply tossed atop a plain cheese slice. I had a slice of vegetarian stuffed pizza.

The New York-style was the winner. The Italian sausage looked like hamburger but was actually ground sausage with good flavor. The cheese and crust were fine, as they were on the Sicilian, but the Sicilian was a bit too bready and dry.

The slice of vegetarian stuffed was enormous, so big that the $5.50 price isn't a rip-off, and is served with a cup of red sauce, a nice touch. The crust on top was pale, not very thick, and had almond shaped holes that gave it a nice spooky look. The bottom crust was no thicker and black on the bottom, but didn't taste burnt. The rolled end-crust is thick enough to stop a train. The contents were ricotta, broccoli, spinach, mozzarella, and very good mushrooms, which combined to be too many flavors at once. The mushrooms in particular didn't cohere. Still, the broccoli was firm, as I like it, and the rictotta was pleasing.

Next time I think I'll ask for a New York-style with broccoli and ricotta, like I once had at one of the Famous Ray's (Ray's Famous?) on 7th Ave. in New York and still relish.

Polito's is informal--the metalflake red upholstery on the booths makes it look like it was once an American Graffiti-themed diner--but has a large menu with strombolis, calzones, subs, and a dozen pasta dishes, which the regulars in the place were ordering.

Turn right (south) onto Grape Rd. Polito's is on the west side of Grape Rd. maybe three blocks south of Douglas. It's about 10 minutes from the toll road.

      It is NOT a chain!

They have both a Webpage & a Facebook Page.

      Here's their Webpage: http://politospizzeria.com/#&pane...
