My wife and I will be spending a long weekend in Green Bay, WI next month are in need of restaurant recommendations. Looking for great food - we don't have any specific type of food in mind, just something to make the trip worth while and price is not a concern. Thanks!

I grew up in Green Bay (a long time ago!) and have been in the Dallas area for 13 years. We go up to Green Bay many times a year since my family is still there. Here are some of my favorite places to eat.

For fine dining, Black and Tan is very good as the last poster said. It is in East DePere, which is right next to Green Bay. The Mariner is also very good for a nice meal. It overlooks the Fox river - very nice inside.

For buttery hamburgers, good malts and sundaes, try Krolls on the east side or the west side across from Lambeau Field. It is a GB institution. Very casual, but kind of pricey for what you get, but very good. Their chicken noodle soup is thick and very tasty.

Another good place for great burgers and super great sundaes made with frozen custard is Ziggy's in East DePere. Kind of a drive up kind of place.

Legends is pretty good. It's a large sports bar with pretty decent food.

For excellent bagels and cream cheeses of many flavors, go to one of the Sue Ann Bagel's shops. There are several in the area.

Can't think of any other places right now. There are not a lot of gourmet type restaurants. Black and Tan is one of the few. If I think of some others, I will post them.

(I don't live there anymore so that doesn't help.)

I know there is a Hinterland brewery on the west side of Green Bay on Broadway. At least there was a couple of years ago. The beer is very good and they have a small dining room. I have never eaten there.

A block away is the old train depot restaurant. Can't think of the name now but it has very good food. A cute train atmosphere. Casual but can get very loud in there. But good food. Just ask anyone where the train depot restaurant is. It is on the Fox River.

I just read some older posts about eating in Green Bay. Do a search for Green Bay and you will find a few postings. The restaurant in the train depot is called Titletown Brewery.

Bistro Jean Paul is an outstanding gourmet restuarant. Intimate. Fine dining. Located in what was a 19th century hardware store.
