Jp An American Bistro (Minneapolis) is great.

Totally great. Excellent food, good service. I ate at Levain the same week and was underwhelmed. Granted the food is very different. Both places serve "contemporary American" but JP takes it a Asian direction, while Levain is more Mediterranean. However, I think Jp was a much more well rounded place -excellent food and with very good, professional service. Plus the desserts were much MUCH better then the sad confections at Levain, which were very unimpressive.

Just wanted to revive this older post to vouch for jP Bistro's happy hour. In the bar area, from 4-6 daily, jP offers possibly the best chow-ish happy hour in town. They offer an amazing pasta special (last time it was harissa, roast corn, and chicken) for $5 and a great tuna burger for $8. All their specialty drinks with the high-end mixers are also 1/2 off. The frites and olives are also on special. For those days when you need a quick bite without the fuss, jP's happy hour is worth the consideration....

I was at JP last weekend and feel pretty much the same as you. Food was very good, service was professional friendly, desserts were brave and creative (no tiramisu or creme brulee). I plan to go back about once a year.

Here, here. Best restaurant I've found in the TC since I moved here a few months back.
