Anyone have any ideas for dinner in Hays, Kansas? It's an on-the-way stop on a x-country trip, and I'm desperate to find good food on the way. Many thanks.

Al's Chickenette of course. On south Hwy 182(?).

I can't second Al's. I was disappointed with pretty poor chicken, and without that there's nothing much else to recommend. Now, although not tried, there are (as almost always in W Kansas) good looking Mexican places, some quite authentic, by their storefronts.
But Al's does have character, if that's more important in the decision. It's not a chain.

I'm looking for a place in Hays for lunch tomorrow and like Mike, don't think Al's Chickenette's food is as good as the ambiance.

Any current recomendations for a interesting but good locally owned place?

These are the two best places I have found.
I prefer Gella's for ambiance and food.
        Professor's did have a good green bean-dumpling
        soup.
