Are there any suggestions for tasty peach pie (with excellent crust) in the Twin Cities? I had THE BEST peach pie I will ever, ever eat at a place in Glenwood Springs CO several years ago. I know I will never find a peach pie like it, but I'd like to get close. Thanks for any input!

this isn't peach pie, but its close. ted cook's 19th hole bbq on 38th just west of hwy 55 in south mpls has excellent peach cobbler. the peaches are canned, but its well spiced and the portion is exceedingly ample. and if you go there, you may as well get a rack of ribs, which are the best i've had in minnesota. if you can't afford the $18 rack, which includes a healthy amont of side orders, the rib tips are a good substitute.

The Birchwood Cafe in Seward makes a variety of very yummy pies. Don't know if I've ever seen peach, but if Colorado peaches are arriving, I bet they'll be making one.

Fortune cookie says "If you want great pie, there's travel in your future". Travel or a quest for homemade pie knowledge.

Glenwood Springs is a great locale for stone fruit and that is the first and most important step towards pie nirvana. Fruit that has ripened on the tree and reached its maximum sugar content is hard to find away from the orchard, because ripe peaches don't like to travel (will turn to puree). The best peach for pie is particularly ripe and often ugly. Appearance drives most produce handlers and cooks alike, and the unfortunate consequence is marginal flavor.

Crust is a far more controlable variable, but definitely an individual taste. Great dessert cookbooks abound. Check out books by Lindsey Shere, David Lebovitz, Regan Daley, and Claudia Fleming.

The best pie I've had in the Midewest was up at the Apple Festival in Bayfield Wisconsin. There's plenty of marginal pie at any festival, so you have to get a feel for the competition, consult some knowledgeable looking types, and be prepared to eat several slices.

Years ago I had great pie at Betty's on the North Shore. Might of been canned fruit, but the appetite was epic, and the location awesome.

In the Twin Cities, I'd call ahead and see if there's pie on the menu at Lucia's.

That is a tough one. The best pies in the Twin Cities are at Turtle Bread Company. However, they do not make peach pie. They do make a fanatstic raspberry pie, as well as a great strawberry rhubarb pie. The crust is excellent, but no peaches.

I know what you are talking about with the peach pie. I had an amazing peach pie in Conencticut about 15 years ago, and I remember thinking at the time that I may never have a peach pie that good again.

If you decide to make your own, I highly recommend the peaches at Bob's Produce at the Mineapolis Farmer's Market. My wife and I shared a couple of their peaches yesterday and they were outstanding. And I think they will just get better over the next few weeks. My source there told me that the Colorado peaches are making their debut next week.

Thanks all for the tips. I'll definitely check out the Turtle Bread place! I'll eat raspberry pie if I have to.

Funny how one can store a memory of such a tasty pie. The one I had was called "peaches and cream" and it was served at a place called "Our Daily Bread" in Glenwood Springs. My husband ordered it and I was too nervous about getting on the train in time to get back to Iowa -- stupid -- I said I didn't want any pie. Well his slice arrived. It was about five inches high with a most excellent crust and heavy cream (or something similar) poured on top. He let me have a couple of bites and THEN built a makeshift barrier between me and his pie with the menu and salt shaker, etc. It was pretty funny. But I know there will never be another pie like it! :-)

I just saw a mighty fine looking peach pie at the St. Paul Farmer's market today. It was at Toast of Bread. There was one just sitting on the corner of the table and I thought of you.

I think Toast of Bread is at the Mpls. Farmer's market also. I'd give them a call. I don't think they have a shop anymore.
