Looking for suggestions for a good spot to host a small reception in Indy in late October. Will need a private room for about 20-35 adults, no kids. Nice but not too formal, my guests would be out of their element in anything too upscale! Ideally looking for something a little different along with good food, city view, interesting decor etc...
Anyone been to Magic Moments Restaurant? The location (top of a downtown building with nice views) is perfect but I don't know about the food.
Also looking at Scholar's Inn. Seems to have very good reviews.
Thanks in advance for all the suggestions.!

My wife and I went to Magic Moments about a year ago. While the food wasn't bad, it was really a pretty unmemorable $100 dinner. The tableside magic was cool, but not cool enough to make us want to go back. Perhaps it has improved since that time?

Depending upon your budget, The Scholars Inn (http://www.scholarsinn.com/cafeindy/awards.shtml) would be very nice. I think that it would definitely be considered pretty upscale and will most likely be pretty pricey.

The Rathskeller (http://www.rathskeller.com/), on the corner of Massachusetts, New Jersey and Michigan, has several rooms that would accomodate a group of 20-35. They can usually put together a pretty nice menu for a reasonable price. You also have the Bier Garten there which can provide a nice place for people to hang out after the reception. I believe that it's open, with live music, through their big annual halloween party.

The Milano Inn (http://www.milanoinn.com) on College Ave has private rooms. It's definitely one of the old school Italian restaurants in Indy.

The Majestic (http://dinesite.com/info/rstrnt-30633/?&t=1242), on Pennsylvania and Maryland, has a room upstairs that my company has used for a couple of Christmas parties. The food is generally pretty good.

The Villa Inn (http://www.thevillainn.com/), on Delaware just south of 16th, has some beautiful rooms. It may qualify as too upscale.

Could you provide some more information about what you're looking for? Do you just want a room for a private dinner, or do you want a place where there's room to walk around and visit with other guests? Also, what day of the week, and what time of the day, are you looking for?

I like Matt's Rathskeller suggestion. There's no city view there, but it seems to meet all the other requirements pretty well.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the suggestions. Let me see if I can be a little more specific. This would be for a seated dinner (as opposed to a cocktail and appetizer thing), most likely a Saturday night, but possibly Friday or Sunday. Definitely want a private room. Would prefer a plated dinner over buffet style. I'd also like a little flexibility with the menu choices if possible. Just the option to allow guests to pick from two or three entrees as opposed to EVERYONE has steak or chicken, etc... I've ran into that a few places I've tried.
To clarify my "nothing too upscale comments", I guess I need to avoid really trendy or formal places. Not for me, but for the comfort of my guests...
Thanks again for the suggestions. I'll let you know where we end up!
