Second trip to La Crosse in as many winters. I love this town,,nice to visit at least. Before dinner or after dinner or first thing in the morning MUST stop by Del's Bar for a famous Bloody Mary. Really tastey and spciey with a chaser included! Isn't America Great?
Dinner at Kate's on State, 1810 State Street, great very small boutique Italian,,adequate wine list, nice menu of Northern Italian fare, just plain great atmosphere,,casual yet elegant,,cozy and romantic,,comfortable for a singel as well. Enjoy. Had Piggy's last time,,very good as well but a meat fest a Texan could afford to miss this time around,,,also worth stopping in for dessert for their ice cream liquor drinks,,,very tastey. Enjoy this cool town.

Tim,
I'm afraid I don't know any restaurants in La Crosse but I can recommend one bar.
CASINO
304 PEARL ST LA CROSSE WI
608) 782-1910
As I recall, the decor was vintage art deco and the jukebox was full of jazz and blues. The bar had the largest import beer selection I've ever seen. The beer menu is literally several pages long. Not a glitzy place or likely to attract the all-cocktails-are-martinis crowd. It has been several years since I've been but I guess it had been around a while and I got the address and phone number above off the qwestdex.com website so I imagine they're still open.
They are located 'downtown' and there are several restaurants within a couple blocks, I imagine. We visited one but after Casino so I don't remember a lot about it.

I'm getting ready to leave La Crosse tomorrow after spending a few days here for a conference and decided I would stop by Casino after a particularly long day. Definitely a great spot that has a lot of character. Like Kevin says, you can't go wrong if you're looking for a beer.
