L'Etoile in Madison

Jonathan, I must thank you for your recommendation.
L'Etoile was WONDERFUL! Not only is the food
phenomenal but the service, atmosphere and bend-over
backwards attitude made the whole evening one of the
most delightful meals I have ever had.
Though we did not have reservations (we were not sure
we would make it back to Madison in time for dinner-
my client was actually in a town called Dodgeville),
and there was a large party coming in, as we were only
in town for one night, they sat us immediately and at
a very lovely table by the window overlooking the
capitol building. ( I know run-on sentence!) Might I
add that State Street and the surrounding college/
business/ shopping/ dining/ hanging out district is
adorable and very chic!

ingredients and utilizing all the local farms and
We had a glass of champagne to start and they brought
out two delicious treats gratis, first a triangle
wheat cracker with a whipped chevre cheese with a
toasted walnut on top. EXCELLENT! I wanted to ask
for another but did not, next they brought a little
round dish ( I am blanking on the name of the
dish/little crock that you bake in, 2 inches diameter)
with puree of parsnip that you ate with a spoon.
The bread is a locally grown sour dough- We ate it up
in seconds! We were traveling since 4am and had hardly
For a starter we both (my associate and I) had the
salad of artichokes and Parisienne mushrooms with
shaved Wisconsin stravecchio cheese. Again, terrific!
The black angus beef was the most tender we had ever
eaten and cooked to perfection. We both were thinking
of beef all day so we had to do it, but I was torn
between that and the two fish specials, sauteed skate
wing with hazelnuts and blood oranges and the Pacific
halibut in a mushroom crust. I am sorry I didn't order
the latter, it looked phenomenal on someone elses
plate as did the Yukon Gold potato gnocchi with fresh
herbs, spinach, baby carrots with a hickory nut sauce.
I cannot tell you how much we wished we had another
night to dine there.
Dessert was outstanding. Viennese custard with a
shortbread cookie and organic whippped cream.
Let us not forget the sorbet/intermezzo, I cannot
remember exactly what the flavor was but it could have
been the spiced balsamic red wine sorbet.
Double thumbs up! We also left without feeling overly
weighed down. Always a plus.
So to sum it up, GO THERE!!!! SOON!!!
