Todai buffet in Schaumburg
Have you been to Todai recently? I heard they had an all you can eat Japanese buffet including a lot of sushi, but have also heard that recently the quality has not been good. Feedback?

Pretty Expensive and low quality tasteless sushi. If you want to gorge yourself then this is the place for you. If you want quality Sushi and Japanese food then go somewhere else.
Although if u try Todai, make sure you go during lunch time as the dinner prices arent worth it.

If I had to choose, I'd
prefer To-just-get-sick
over Todai.

It's bad, stay away. Unless you enjoy warm/dry sushi and like sitting next to 400 lbs behemoths gorging on crab legs.

I thought it was terrible...but it could've been the time I went. I went 45 mins before the lunch hour was over on a Sat and it was fend for yourself. Nothing new was coming from the kitchen and you were left to fight over the remains pieces with other dinners and scraping the bottom of the bowls. And we were still charged full price!!! From what we tried...it was nothing worth what you pay for. I would say try it if you are prepared to pay more than you should and also go at the beginning of the dining hours.

Yes, we ate there last night.
The restaurant is very depressing, like eating in a run-down Holiday Inn lobby.
The food is not much better, sushi is dry and warm, the people making the sushi look like they just finished cleaning the rest rooms.
Finally, you get all this for $40/person for lunch.

I agree with the general consensus. Quality of food has gotten worse. Minami in Streamwood, IL is very good. Here's their address:

I went to Todai once ages ago. It wasn't bad that day-- they had pretty good poke, for instance-- but I couldn't eat enough to feel like I got my money's worth. If you want to pig out on inexpensive Japanese food in that area, you can go up the road to Mitsuwa and eat in the food court.

I agree. Mistuwa is a great place to go for inexpensive Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cuisine. Their sushi is reasonably priced and the bim bim bap is a staple of my work week lunches. There is also a market where you can pick up snacks too. Warning though...the food court only accepts cash.

We've eaten at Minami... way better than Todai!
Another good one is Sakura in Rolling Meadows or Schaumburg? It's near the NW corner of the 90/53 expressway cloverleaf.

Are those places ayce? The appeal of Todai for us is the ayce oysters, sashimi and lobsters. Its not the best sushi but, its not bad.
