My sisters and our boyfriends were interested in Extra Virgin for New Years. We wanted a place where we could dress up, yet have a decent meal. Has anyone been to Extra Virgin? Is it too casual for New Years? Could anyone recommend another reasonably price prix fixe meal for New Year's?

I've been to Extra Virgin twice; most recently last Sunday. It's nice, but not particularly dressy, although I'd imagine that many will be dressed up for New Year's Eve. The food on our last visit was appreciably better that our first (right after opening). Mountainous antipasto platters with many choices of cheeses, meats and veggies are great for sharing. Favorite dish are arancini (rice balls) with crabmeat...a crave-worthy dish. "Carbonara" mac-n-cheese was great, too (as long as you share it with 3 or 4 people).

A lot of places are alreasy booked up if they're having a special menu; check Open Table.

If you're willing to venture out of the city, Trio Atelier in Evanston has a terrific-sounding menu and the price is reasonable considering the venue and day: 6 courses for $80 for the first seating and $95 (includes Champagne) for the second seating. Seems like a good deal, considering that many lesser places are charging more (such as China Grill).

Details are on their website at www.trio-restaurant.com.
