Had some fantastice soft shell crab at West Town Tavern about a month ago. It was served as a BLT, but was open-faced and heavenly. Not sure if they are still in season, so I would call ahead it you intend to head there specifically for the crab.

Also, my husband and I purchased some fresh soft shells at Fox & Obel about two months ago. They were exactly the way you'd want them: still alive when we selected them. The fishmonger cleaned them for us, we took them home, dusted them with flour, and pan-fried them in garlic caper butter. Absolutely outstanding!
