I'm looking for good quality coconut milk at a good price. I'm aware of Argyle as I live on the Northside but I've been recently told that not all coconut milks from a can can be trusted so I figured I'd turn to chicago chowhounds to figure out prices, brands, and locations. Any help? I know i can get Taste of Thai at Dominick's but if I can do the same for cheaper I'd love to. Thanks.

I'm no expert on coconut milk but it's all over my Albany Park neighborhood. We get the 79-cent stuff at the Egal Food Market on Richmond and Lawrence. There's also great stuff at Andy's Market on Kedzie just south of Lawrence and two blocks north of the Kedzie Brown line stop. You won't find Lite Coconut milk, which is what I prefer, but for an interesting twist on coconut soup dishes try the Coconut Cream, also ina can. While you're in the hood, there are dozens of great food shops (mostly middle eastern) from the el to Lawrence. Make an afternoon of it.

Hi.
I live in the Midwest, and know what you are talking about. Fortuneately, there is a solution. You can usually order fresh coconuts online. Check out eBay, or type in your topic in a search engine. eBay will have what you need. International shipments of coconuts, and the milk that you are looking for, matt.
Good luck
