I'm looking for the right place for a first anniversary dinner. We're looking to have a special and memorable evening. We've been to Trotter's and to Topolobampo; I was thinking of Trio, but now it's closed for transition. Where's the best spot, on or off the beaten track?

My husband and I just recently had a wonderful meal at Spiaggia (the main room, not the Cafe). It was at the price level of Trio, and worth every penny. Service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is intimate, and the food was fabulous.
Do a search for "Spiaggia" to see my post a day or two after 7/30/04

Trio "Atelier" is open and has been since last week. And it's REALLY good (but in a more casual way than Trotter's, Tru, the old Trio). I still think Les Nomades is the most romantic spot in Chicago for a special meal. From numeorous vists, I think it's also the most consistently excellent fine-dining spot. It's very Old World (in a good way), so if you want "edgy" then go to Moto.
