Last week a blurb in the news mentioned a Portland restaurant that specializes in Atkins Diet food. I missed the restaurant name. Anybody knows?

Don't know about Atkins but if you're downtown, there's a "Low Carb Cafe" on third in the global food court right across from Bally's. Went there the other day. It's actually pretty good.

Gotta ask, what are the lunches like (I saw a sign for something called a "meat stack"?) - and what is included for what price?

I'm trying to get back into the Zone way of eating (though the exercise I've not been getting is even more important and I gotta get off my duff and get crackin'!) and I'm tired of throwing away bread slices(because it freaks out the lady in the sandwich place when I order 1 slice of bread!). I was thinking of giving it a try but was hoping for more info first.

Never had the meat stack but their specials aren't bad. I've had pot roast and Austrian chicken there and they come with a salad and drink for $5.00. It's a nice alternative although I also really like the Indian place in that court.

Near PDX is Noodlin'(beaverton) - I worked on the menu - though this is a carb o- rama . I did a nice entree soup - noodle less soup - lemon grass ginger broth with housemade bbq pork, chicken - bok choy, cabbage etc topped with a flavorful beansprout mint cilantro poof. Tasty and Atkins friendly! When in Seattle go to Rippes for a good steak and double veg dinner.

A friend of mine who owns a couple of SW PDX restaurants (Speedy Linguini and Cafe Allegro) is planning on opening a Low Carb focused Italian restaurant in the new development going up in downtown Lake Oswego. He says it should be up and running by late fall... Says there are lot's of ways to make great food with low carbs. Looking forward to trying it!

I've been on Atkins a couple weeks with a friend (not my favorite diet, but it does work). The two best places I've found for it so far are breakfast all day places (omelettes with sausage, etc, are a-okay) and bbq, sauce on the side. Get collard greens instead of potato salad or whatever and you're set. (And with the collard greens there's no reason to binge on metamucil).

Most places, btw, are very good about substituting a starch for a green vegetable or cottage cheese or something like that.
