It's at the corner of Broadway and Wellington- There were several postings about a week ago on this site, and majority were negative-I have yet to try it, but many described it is a "yuppie parlor", with overpriced ice cream-I tried to get in last Saturday, but was blocked by several strollers containing in-vitroed twins, and black labs drinking out of the courtesy water bowls out front..How Cute!!!

PS : They are advertising FREE ice cream all day today!!

A block south on Broadway is Sugar BUZZ- It has no frontal signage, so it's easy to miss....I did try it last week, and the ice cream is really good- It's from San Francisco, and though not homemade, it was very reasonably priced and flavorful...they sell a bunch of other sugar-laden goods including chocolates.

This is becoming Ice Cream Row, this area of Lakeview- You have Cold Stone Creamery at Diversey/Clark, Bobtail, Sugar Buzz, Icy Fruity/Soupbox (also overpriced and mediocre and another Yupster hangout) and Hershey's Ice Cream Parlor at Belmont-Broadway....

Someones not doing their Market Research- How many of these places will survive our 2 month summer!!!!!!!!

I remember reading or hearing a stray factoid that Chicagoans are among the biggest per capita consumers of ice cream -- year round. Naaaah, we don't let those winter months get in the way of a good scoop! Perhaps these places have done their market research!

Those of us in cold locales love ice cream all year round...the ice cream place around the corner from me(forget the name, it's just north of the NE corner of B'way and Aldine) did a good biz all winter....

Russians are supposedly one of the biggest consumers of ice cream, even in the dead of winter (which lasts nine months there).

I was actually able to get in that Saturday they were giving away free ice cream and I must say the ice cream was great! They had a lot to choose from and as far as being to pricey, I didn't think so. For fresh and flavorful ice cream, you may have to pay a little more, but it's worth it! They have a great patio area and inside is decorated like an old fashioned soda fountain, vey clever. As far as survival, I hope they will be a around, this place is a great treat!

I agree with you about Bobtool's being a yuppy hangout with shitty product and the sugar buzz place is much better. I was in the icebox recently and they have dropped there prices in half to compete. Along with the ice cream invasion of broadway there is nice treats and chicago ice cream parlor at aldine and broadway, and a fresh choice has ice like product as well at roscoe and broadway. I am not a health concious person(as well as a shitty speller) But I prefer the icy fruit, its simple and natural and you know what they put in it.
sincerly,

I'm surprised to hear that people don't like the ice cream. Personally, I'm borderline-addicted to their signature sunset flavor. The place is adorable, the service is good, and the ice cream tastes great. I drove by their grand opening on Saturday, and decided to forego my ice-cream fix that day because there was a line spanning half the block for free ice cream! While the prices aren't cheap, I usually prefer to pay a little more for something I know is fresh and good quality.

Kim...we're at the corner of Broadway and Wellington, open 7am-11pm Sun-Thurs, and 7am-midnight Friday and Saturday.

Glad to hear the feedback from everyone. I'm one of the founders/managers at the store and I think our store is an incredible place that gets better every day. 99% of the customers I serve everyday (about 300-800 by the way) seem to be extremely happy. I'd be willing to put our ice cream up against any in the city on radio, tv, or any other media there is. If you visit and something isn't right, please come tell us at the store. We want to know and it's the only way we'll be able to get things right. You can also email me any time at hill_bobtail@yahoo.com with comments and suggestions.

I suppose a special thanks should go to Bob Grant for giving us insincere and terrible reviews on every online rating site in Chicago. It must be nice to have that kind of time. If I hadn't spent the last 6 months opening a business maybe I could play those games too. Did your American Idol candidate win too?
