However, fruit tapioca teas are best from JY. :) Try Tea Leaf Cafe in chinatown - the tapioca milk tea is much "milkier" and has a little chocolate taste. I think it's much better than the relatively bland milk tea at Joy Yees.

  1. To the Board's collective credit, I don't think I've ever read any proclamation here that Joy Yee's had the best anything.

While the novelty of tapioca balls in my beverages wore off before I reached the bottom of my first one, my kids still love them. And the drinks themselves are great.

I think the bakeries on Arglye do a very good job, especially with avocado, which is the king of milkshakes, IMO.

Apparently, Chicago is quite on the cutting edge with all of it's bubble/boba options. I had a tough time finding a halfway decent one in LA (Thai Town, no less) last summer for my kids. And currently, the super-hip folks down in South Beach are searching for a place that serves them. See the Florida Board.

I'd say Joy Yee has the best decor of any place in the Chinatown Mall... ;-)

Can we start a campaign to stop calling the drinks by anything other than their true and rightful name--as Ms. VI and I learned many years ago on our Asian honeymoon: ball-ball drinks. They are ball-ball drinks, damn-it!

I had the best green tea shake (with tapioca pearls, or "bubbles") ever at Mitsuwa last Saturday. The key was their homemade green tea gelato. So good!
