A group of parents and kids will be visiting St. Charles for a soccer tournament on Memorial Day weekend. Any good places in that area for us to eat on Saturday night? Any place you could recommend with a private or semi-private room would be great. We're willing to travel around a bit but need to plan to stay fairly close, because we don't have the game schedules yet. Thanks.

Sounds like you will be at the big soccer complex west of the Fairgrounds. I haven't been but Bud's Place on Randall just north of Rte. 38 (Geneva's State Street) seems to be a place to go for the sport teams, it's big but not sure if they have seperate rooms. My sister and nephew have been there several times after his junior football games which are played just west of the soccer fields and she says the food is good. There isn't much that I can think of that is suitable for several family/sports teams groups. Colonial Cafe on Rte. 38 just east of Randall is another place that may work. Going south on Randall you will find the many of the usual chains that cover a real wide variety of types of food at a variety of prices.

Up Rt.64 a little bit (downtown St. Charles) there is Rookies Sports Bar, the Filling Station (kind of a neat place, used to be a gas station and has related decor, it also has outdoor seating), and the Manor House (great place for breakfast!!!) I am pretty sure that Manor House has another room, the Filling Station is broken up into different rooms and I am not sure about Rookies having a separate room. Hope this helps!

I ate at the Filling Station two years ago and I thought the food was pretty good. Nothing on the menu was very unusual but the food was well prepared and the service was adequate on a busy Sunday afternoon.

There is also a Scandanavian place called Erik and Me that is along the river which serves a good meal. I had teh Danish platter which was quite good.
