Lunch in Bloomingdale?
- Flip Feb 4, 2004 01:01 PM
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for lunch in the Bloomingdale area. I ahve a few stanbys like Capone's deli (italian), San Jose Taqueria (Mexican), but I often find myself searching through a pile of take out menus to find something for lunch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A perfect chance to throw in a plug for Amalfi's. Almost sure they serve lunch. Always excellent Italian standards at reasonable prices. The chicken vesuvio can't be beat. Almost as good is Amore's in Old Town. For someting a little out of the ordinary for this far west try the Shish Cafe in Carol Stream for middle eastern standards. Very friendly owners.
What have you tried at the San Jose Taqueria? I went there in the last carnation and it was good but it has changed hands since then. Do they have any regional specialties?

I have to agree with you about Amalfi's. I have taken clients there, and have always had a good meal. In respect to San Jose Taqueria the menu has remained basically the same as it was in the previous incarnation of Alta Mira. Good burritos, tacos and tortas There horchata is pretty tasty too.
The lengua tacos at Taco Real on Hiawatha Drive in Carol Stream are the best I have ever had.
Serino's Subs, 1720 W. Army Trail Road, Addison has terrific Italian subs; also try whatever Mama's special is that day.
DiMaggio's on Gary in Bloomingdale has real Buffalo, NY wings and good sandwiches. I wish there still was a Vietnamese place, but it looks like both the one on St. Charles Rd. in Carol Stream and the one on Geneva Road in Wheaton have closed.
The Vietnamese place on St Charles Rd, Nha Y, was closed for a while but has re-opened. I was there about 3 months ago and it was still very good. The other Vietnamese place Sao Mai on Main and Geneva in Wheaton has closed and re-opened as a decent Indian restaurant. There is the chain, Pho Hoa, on Bloomingdale Road, I believe in Glendale Heights. Have not tried it yet. There is also another Vietnamese place in strip mall on the corner of North Ave and Bloomingdale Rd which has some out of the ordinary choices. Good luck.
