In effort to get my plans determnied sooner rather than later, I'm curious about some dining options for Valentine's Day. Suggestions and.or recommendations would be appreciated!

1) Would Topolabampo provide a romantic enough backdrop for this occasion?

2) I'm also considering Pili.Pili, Kevin, or Crofton's. Between these choices, is there one that stands apart from the rest?

Thanks again hounds.

Depending on your/your dates familiarity with Chicago the signature room is always a fun place to start for drinks and a terrific view if you manage to get a seat by the window.

I can't address the other two but the one experience I had at Crofton on Wells was mediocre, it is dimly lit but the atmosphere left me sort of cold(of course it was also freezing outside and we were seated near the door). Of all of the dishes we tried the mushroom appetizer was very good but they did not hold the bacon as requested. The rest of the meal was good but nothing outstanding for the price.

Topolobampo could be romantic enough depending on what you are looking for, and although some have complained I have never had a bad meal there.

Another favorite spot is Cafe Absinthe, you may want to check ahead to see if the place you choose has a special menu for the evening.

My experience at Crofton on Wells is similar to Aimee's. The food is mediocre, but the place seems very impressed with itself. It strives for an aura of hipness, but doesn't pay much attention to the details that matter--like food and service.

I like the food at Topolobampo, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it for a "romantic" dinner. I have had generally positive experiences at North Pond in Lincoln Park. The setting is good for a Valentine's date, and the food can be very good if you catch the kitchen on the right night, although the menu is seasonal, and I haven't been impressed with the restaurant's past winter offerings. If you go there, stay away from the fish, and think about ordering a lot of appetizers, which are usually the best dishes there.

Another place, near Crofton on Wells, which might be worth considering is Tizi Melloul.

I have had great, amazing, romantic meals there when they are on.

However, they can be crowded. I've loved almost everything I've eaten there, it is "morrocan influenced" not "morrocan" - go there expecting tasty dishes, a lush atmosphere, and a long (but very enjoyable) meal.
