Golden Shell on the southeast side
Having been an expatriot for the past 10 yrs, I was wondering if this bastion of Gypsy fare (and good old BIG platefulls)and working mans fun was still around. As I remember, It wasn't far from Richard Specks apartment. 107th and Avenue "L", or something like that.

The Golden Shell was at 10063 South Avenue N. Its now gone (closed sometime in the 90s I think). Before it was the Golden Shell it was called the Shipyard Inn and, yes, Richard Speck rented a room there.

The kids of the owners of golden shell own coaches corner on kennedy ave in Hammond [Hessville]. I have never been there but I saw a menu and a few of the shell's menu items are on it. Hope to try it soon and report back.
