I've been lurking on this board for awhile and decided to post a pictorial link to an experience I had about a month ago in Ann Arbor, MI. I ended up going to Zingerman's twice for lunch. The second time I spent $250 in the Deli and then another $100 via mail order the next week.

Both meals were Pastrami sandwiches and were excellent. The Matzo Ball soup was very good. Zingerman's is well worth the trip. Since I live in South Bend, IN its about a 2.5 hour drive.

The service was outstanding. I was able to taste many cheeses, condiments, and sausages, before purchsing. For this type of service I would suggest missing the 11:45-1:15 lunch crowd.

This is the kind of place where I was sitting at the back table with my digital camera and taking pictures of my meal. A woman at the next table came over and made the comment "I understand" as I was taking pictures. We had a nice conversation and she told Ann Arbor has many great little restaraunts.

Bruce,

The Mayor of Chicago Chowhound, Vital Info, David Hammond, Seth and I were discussing a Chowhound road trip to Zingerman's at San Chae Dolsot last month. This was the dinner the Mayor mentioned where I startled Antonio, the proprietor, by asking for the hottest hot sauce he had, which was only hot bean paste and not all that spicy, and liberally slathering my dumplings.

In true Chowhound fashion the conversation started out with the four of us in a car driving directly to Zingerman's and quickly, as the wine and soju disappeared, evolved into renting a Winabago and visiting Chowhound sites of interest in 4-5 states.

Thanks for posting the pictures, I have never been to Zingerman's but am looking forward to my first visit.

Enjoy,
Gary

Since my wife's family lives in Livonie, about 1/2 hour drive from Ann Arbor, Zingermans has become a mandatory stop on the way to/from Livonia. I do believe that they have THE best pastrami hands down, but don't get the "lean".
