Just wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with the Single Gourmet Social Club. I'm new to Chicago (three months) and I'm looking for a place to meet (normal) people who enjoy good food and drink in a social setting.

I always have this kind of scary premonition that Single Gourment will be me and a bunch of 90 year old never married school marms eating wet toast and warm milk. Or some group of psychotic stalkers who call you at 3 am to invite you to Olive Garden for Baloney Alfredo (that's classic and I will use it often to describe Olive Garden fare).

I'd love to hear any experiences that any of you may have had.

I've never heard of the Single Gourmet Club, so I can't offer any pearls of wisdom about it. However, I can recommend an alternative. I don't know if your looking for "that special someone for at least right now", or non-psychotic people under 90, or both, but there are plans underway for a chowhound picnic next weekend that you might find interesting.

Single Gourmet held dinners at my previous restaurant. The group, which can number 40 to 80 plus people, does eat at decent restaurants and not the Olive Garden type.I have heard them mentioning dinners at Carlos, Prarie etc. Obviously a large group is limited in terms of menu selections. What can I say about the guests? Generally well dressed, drink white zinfandel, large hair or toupees.
