Anybody know where you can get good beef Wellington downtown? My parents are big fans of retro fare, and Pops has a hankering for the stuff.

Boy, I wonder if that's still on the menu anywhere. I suppose you could check Lawry's, or some of the places that make a point of not having changed in decades, like The Berghoff or the restaurants in the Drake Hotel or something. (Petterino's brought back Steak Diane, maybe Beef Wellington is in their future.)

Shoulda done a search first. A place called Plaza Tavern, 70 W. Monroe, with a retro theme beat Petterino's to reviving Beef Wellington, while a place called Pete Miller's in Evanston also declares it their specialty, according to their metromix.com writeup.

Pete Miller's is really a steak place, and not a bad one at that (though I don't think they'd make it into the top tier in the city) What I like best there though is a great burger in the bar room where you can also get a game of pool.

Zaven's (260 E. Chestnut)--I had boeuf en croute there a couple of weeks ago. It's a *very* retro sort of place, but the food is excellent. I think it's the only restaurant I've been in recently that serves Chateaubriand.
