Over a year ago G Wiv mentioned it in chi.eats (Gary was one of the most informative posters ever in chi.eats; apparently he has given up in disgust with the current state of the group). He hadn’t been but just described the sign etc. I tried to visit but he had gotten the hours wrong. For the last year I’ve been carrying a little scrap of paper in my wallet with the details. It’s part of a kimchi factory at 4529 N Ravenswood, the phone is 773-728-7053, and it’s only open Fridays from 11-5. I think you’re supposed to make reservations but the person who answered the phone didn’t speak English. They claim to be the only Kimchi Museum outside of Korea. Sounds like a must-visit, doesn’t it?

You know, I pass by that sign almost every day, and each time I see it I think, I gotta go! The next Friday I'm off. I never have though, and in fact, I've never seen this building open. (evenings and weekends are when I see it, since I'm at work the rest of the time).

What does that mean? I felt things were pretty much status quo except for a couple of overly zelous posters. Would you care to explain your comment? If you don't feel comfortable explaining here, perhaps you could E-mail me? I'm very curious.

Thanks,

That got me wondering if chi.eats really has changed or if it was just another case of an old fart (me) thinking how great the old days were. So, using Google, I pulled out every post to chi.eats over three months in 1999, a period I was familiar with. Without too many exceptions, the posts are filled with solid information, the threads rarely went far off topic, and there was a friendly and welcoming tone to the proceedings. In the past several months in chi.eats it has been quite rare to find a post with more than a few sentences pertaining to food. The majority of contributions are "clever" one line responses or insults, rarely food related or rarely clever. I used to read every word contributed to chi.eats but these days I don’t feel it’s worth the trouble.

Rene,

I'm in complete agreement.
I can't be bothered with it any more. Upwards of 80% is "chaff." Yr contributions, notwithstanding. :)

Cheers,
