Write up a fast food resturant?

On the urging or number two, Sophia, I went to lunch today at Burger King. Not only would I not usually write up such an encounter, but typically, I would not write a "negative" review. I rather find good things than just complain. But the utter awfulness of today's lunch has forced me to report.

This Burger King (on Harlem just north of North Av., across from the Domino Pastries discussed below) reminded me of the old Saturday Night Live Routine with Dan Ackroyd as Leonard Pith Garnell discussing theater.

He would have said, "Today's dreadful lunch featured bad meat on bad bread sided by bad french fries served badly."

Is it possible at all, to make money selling the gushy, gray, gruel masquerading as meat at Burger King. The nearly liquid chickenish breaded substance that came out as nuggets were no better. Yet, the fries may have been the worst of all. Cold, with a coating of what, I mean what do you coat a fry with but still perfectly greasy, yuck!

Beware the King.

I can't speak about the particular BK you visited, but I've always thought the Whopper was pretty decent as fast food goes. Of course, as a trash-consuming burgerhound, if I lived in your area I'd be frequenting White Castle.

My first memory of BK is from long before I ever ate at one. If I remember correctly, Frasier Thomas used to hawk BK on Garfield Goose. But it's been a long time, so who knows. ...

A couple times a month, I allow myself the guilty pleasure of a bacon doublecheeseburger combo from the BK at Clark & Irving, and I find their food to be pretty satisfying: crispy fries, nice burger, even friendly staff. I refuse to go near McDonald's anymore (now THAT'S crap). Having spent some time in Dallas, I just wish we had a Sonic drive-through somewheres around here. Tater tots, corn dogs, and jalapeno cheeseburgers? Sign me up.

When time is not a luxury and one is in an area they do not know, BK is very good burger IMO, I stay away from any other offering the BK has. Just the burger and a tea, nothing else.

In regard to some of the replies to my original BK post, perhaps a bit more...

To say that a fast food resturant serves mediocre food, well what's so newsworthy about that. I posted about Burger King because the quality had falled far, far below what I had expected even of Burger King.

For many, many years, I found the BK burger far superior to McDonalds or Wendy's. That is, in a pinch, or with the kids, it made a decent enough meal.

No more.

a few weeks ago, on a long drive back to chicago, i made a late night stop on the interstate for a burger at wendy's. according to a friend in market research who had mcdonald's as a cleint, by reputation wendy's is supposed to offer the best franchise burgers.

i have to say, my burger not only talked the talked, it walked the walk. easily the best franchise fast food ever. everything fresh, made to order and hot (as poosed to warm from the warming lights)

a pleasant surprise.
