Big Bowl

Say what you want about Melman/Lettuce, I had lunch at Big Bowl (on Erie) yesterday and it was great. Red shrimp curry, a special. Very full of deep, authentic flavor, and i'd swear the shrimp were fresh. And the Management was very friendly and solicitous.

Their lettuce wraps, perhaps on the appetizer section of the menu, are excellent.

Just had takeout from Big Bowl in my hotel room... Absolutely delicious. Had the Citrus Curry with Shrimp and Scallops... Asked for it medium spicy and it was just that.
Great flavor, lots of shrimp and scallops. To bad I'm leaving tomorrow I would be back.

I heard that Lettuce sold them off several years ago, the chain expanded, declined in quiality IMHO, and then Lettuce bought them back, downsized the chain, and seems to have fixed things up again. I went to one out in Denver a couple of years ago and vowed to never return, but that location has since gone the way of the Dodo, so I must not have been alone in my opinion.

I find the Rush location to have better service and more consistent food than the Streeterville (Ohio?) spot, but in general for the price its a winner. My standby is the yellow curry with Tofu and a large Sapporo.
