Chicago Hot Dog question??

  • d

I'm not from Chicago but I have a question for you Chicago natives about the Chicago hot dogs.

I am helping a friend try to duplicate these tasty treats she had on a recent visit to Chicago at home. I had them when I was in Chicago and thought they were great as well.

My question is what is the difference between the bright green relish used on these hot dogs and the widely available relish we find in the grocery stores outside of Chicago?

I have seen sites that sell this relish and the sport peppers and various hot dogs, but I was curious what the difference was with the relish.

Thanks for any help in advance!

  1. the answer is (and you must say this in your best Scottish burr)

    "It'sh Green"

    1. Nothing really, it's just a food coloring added to make it stand out more. But I'll tell you the REAL secret to a proper Chicago Style hot dog: It's the Vienna (all) Beef Wieners...and the Rosen's PoppySeed buns...and the celery salt!
NEVER Put Ketchup on a Chicago style dog unless you're under the age of 12.

Nothing like digging up an 8 yr old thread.

I'm sure the hot dog tiffs will start anew.
