Stepho's (Davie St.) for Greek food and Gyoza King (Robson St.) for non-sushi Japanese are two cheap but filling spots that are fairly popular (I like both).

I second that of Gyoza King - outstanding home cooked Japanese food - the menu is very large and has a ton of options (no sushi but they do offer fresh fish specials) I have never had a bad meal - everything is good and cheap (nothing over $10).

While we're on the subject of izakaya, I'll suggest any of the three Guu restaurants. Two are along the Robson Street corridor downtown, and the third is in Gastown. Website is noted below.

There's also Kintaro Ramen at 788 Denman Street. Great gyoza and some of the best ramen I've tasted in town.

You can never go wrong with Guu - in fact you could eat at each location 3 nights in a row and be very satisfied - I think Guu is on my top 3 of places to eat in Vancouver.

Go right when they open (5:30) or be prepared to stand in line. But the wait is WORTH it!
