La Table de Renoir report - Edmonton
Just went there for lunch and had an interesting experience. Overall, the food was good but the service could have been much better.
The decor was cute with an appropriate French theme, wooden tables, and Renoir art hanging on the walls.
My friend and I were somewhat surprised when we tried to order our entrées, as neither of us got what we originally wanted. To start off, we decided to share a plate of Grenouilles à la Provençale (frog legs).
My friend tried to order the Poulet Ratatouille (chicken), but was told the Ratatouille had been burned that morning and there was none available. She settled for one of the specials instead - salmon with a cream pesto sauce and a side salad.
I tried to order the Brochettes d'Agneau (lamb), but was told they were sold out. This was somewhat puzzling, as the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived and it was quite early still. Did they not order enough supplies? I changed my order to Soupe á l'oignon and Salade Maison (onion soup and a house salad). Too bad the waitress hadnt told us about the missing menu items before we tried to order them.
The frog legs were a little smaller than I expected, but were quite tasty. The tomatoes on the plate were a little strong tasting, but were tasty when eaten in combination with the meat or accompanying bread.
My soup was flavourful, but the bread was already starting to get very soggy at my first bite. By the time I ate the last slice of bread, it was completely soaked and started to fall apart. Harder bread and a little more cheese would have been nice. The salmon and both salads were quite good.
For dessert, we both had Créme brûlée. The taste was good, but we both wished the custard's texture was thicker as it was similar to the feeling of a pudding gone soft.
Lunch wasnt a bad experience, but Im not sure it was special enough to be placed on my have-to-visit-more-than-once list.
I highly suggest that you revisit this restaurant for Dinner. The service and food are at their very best then.
I also recommend the Chocolate Mousse based on the rave comments from my daughter for whom this is her absolute favourite desert. She is widely travelled and has eaten it in many restaurants in various parts of the world. She atated that it was the best anywhere - high praise indeed from a chocoholic!

I went for lunch recently and I was impressed with the service. Truth be told, I feel they take an overall french attitude about cuisine and are therefore not willing to serve anything that is not superior. It is something we are not used to in Alberta as we have a less romantic view of food in general.
For me, the food was excellent and the serice was quite good as well.
The chocolate mousse was absolutely exquisite and as a fellow mousse fanatic, I highly recommend it. They are one of the few restaurants who don't feel the need to ruin a great chocolate mousse with other non essential ingredients.
This restaurant merits many revisits and i have recommended it to all of my friends.
