hello all, i have heard a lot of hype about this place. it was great BUT there are equally great places that you don't have to stand in line for. Handi in west van has great tasting food without the wait SO only go to VIJs if you want to dine at the 'trendy' restaurant.

i have also heard a lot about the great service and ambience at VIJs- i thought the hostess had a terrible attitude and no one was really that friendly.

oh well, you have to try everything once. adios CHUNG!!

I had the opposite experience this week when I had lunch at Rangoli, Vij's casual place next store. All of the waitress' came by my table and asked if all was well, the Tamarind Chicken was nice and the wine was served in the cool new Reidel Tumblers.

I think you are being unfair to make such gross generalizations based on one experience. Both times I have been to Vij's the hospitality was remarkable. I also found the staff at Rangoli next door to be very pleasant and helpful.

I think there is more reason to go to Vij's than to be trendy.

I can't stand this place. The worst thing about it is the constant badgering and useless recommendations by Vikram.

What are you supposed to say when the owner recommends dishes that you have no desire having? After letting him get away with it a few times, I have stopped going there. he makes it seem like he will "hook you up" with a bit of something if you try his recommendations, but when you get the bill, you are sadly mistaken.

It's over-priced and irritating. The waitresses are on the constant look out for the rich and famous so they can hopefully have someone remove them from their mediocre and minimum wage lifestyle.

I have to say that having lived in Vancouver for years I have always enjoyed dining at Vij's. Vikram Vij's food is wonderful and we always enjoy a wait in the bar over snacks and a great micro brew. YES its busy but life isn't always a big hurry :)
