I realize Le Croc is more elegant and refined, and Cafe de Paris is going to more closely approximate a bistro. Are they as I remember them 5 years ago? Have there been any new revelations? Getting down to basics, which one would YOU suggest. Café de Paris has undergone a change of ownership in the last year or so and can be uneven, although it still has that authentic bistro feel both in the room and on the menu and does offer a decent table d'hote. Another option well worth considering would be Bistro Pastis, which recently has been renovated to reflect a more traditional bistro feel and serves some of the best bistro food in the city (moules and steak frite, coq au vin, boeuf bourguignon, sweetbreads etc).
