Dear friends,

My wife and I are looking at dining at either of these two restaurants, and are mainly trolling for recent updates. I realize Le Croc is more elegant and refined, and Cafe de Paris is going to more closely approximate a bistro. Are they as I remember them 5 years ago? Have there been any new revelations?

Getting down to basics, which one would YOU suggest.

Thanks,

Le Crocodile remains a superior room in evey respect, although it has always seemed less bistro, more elevated. Café de Paris has undergone a change of ownership in the last year or so and can be uneven, although it still has that authentic bistro feel both in the room and on the menu and does offer a decent table d'hote. Another option well worth considering would be Bistro Pastis, which recently has been renovated to reflect a more traditional bistro feel and serves some of the best bistro food in the city (moules and steak frite, coq au vin, boeuf bourguignon, sweetbreads etc). Knowledgable wine selection too.

I'd go along with the above. I really like the bistro feel of Cafe de Paris but the food can definitely be uneven.

I haven't eaten at Le Crocodile in recent years, but hear from a trusted friend that it is still good. It's fairly high on my list of restaurants in North American to revisit.
