Recommendations for cheap but good Vancouver sushi

I'm going to be in Vancouver for one short evening, but I have to have a good dose of west coast sushi. I don't want to spend a fortune and I want to stay reasonably close to my hotel on Robson. Any suggestions? I am not picky and I don't need really inventive rolls etc, just really good fresh fish.

Thanks!

I have never eaten there but all of my Vancouver friends who eat sushi often(therefore not having that much money to spend at anyone time on it. Which is the direct opposite of how I treat Sushi). They all point to Musashi at 780 Denman St., Vancouver (604) 687-0634 adjacent to Robson. The fish is fresh, ample, and cheap according to them.

Up the street at Tanpopo they have all you can eat Sushi(not for me) but I've only had teriyaki there that was perfectly fine.

    Enjoy!

Koko on East Hastings serves some of the best sushi in Vancouver at very reasonable prices. The sushi menu is relatively traditional. The fish is always fresh, and they always have interesting daily specials depending on what's in season. I love their salmon and tuna sashimi plate. You can get a California hand role with real crab and fabulous Tobiko, but that's as far "out" as they're willing to take it. Last time I was there they didn't have any tempura rolls on the menu, which I found heartening. Koko's been in business for over 20 years, making it one of Vancouver's oldest sushi bars. My friends have been taking their Japanese clients to Koko for business dinners for years. I mention this because trust is everything when it comes to raw fish. The neighborhood is dingy (though perfectly safe) and the restaurant itself looks a little shopworn from the outside. If I didn't know how good Koko is, I probably wouldn't have gone there on spec. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Try Red Tuna on 66th and Granville, very tasty and cheap (2.50 for a roll)
