cafe brussel -- what's going on?

Now I may not have the most sophisticated palate, but I've eaten in restaurants all over the world -- from 3 star Michelin palaces in Paris to dives in Sri Lanka, and I think I can tell a bad meal from a good one. So what's going on with Jacob Richler's review of Cafe Brussel a couple of weeks back? Now I know the man is hard-pressed to give a good review (I don't think I've ever seen one), but this one was as mean spirited and capricious as they come. For one thing, how do you review this restaurant without mentioning the wine list (which is formidable and fairly priced) or the great selection of beers (this is a Belgian restaurant after all)!

My wife and I have had a number of meals there, and we've gotten to know the chef and staff pretty well, and while there is sometimes the odd miss, there are more consistent hits (the crab cakes, the seafood stew, the cassoulet, the great lamb in a blue cheese sauce) to mention a few. And they'll hate me for telling you this, but beg for a homemade banana split for dessert --it's not on the menu, but it's awesome). The service has always been great - attentive, professional and knowledgeable.

We're about to go this week to their new location (bigger, fancier digs), so I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has been to the new place. What's going on with that review?

I have eaten at the new place twice and I found nothing wrong with it. It's nice for me to have a restaurant of that quality within walking distance of home.
