Last night,I had dinner(with my mother and a friend) at Morton's Steak House,on Prince Arthur. I think the food is impossibly overpriced! I had prime rib, which while wonderful, was far too much for me. I wish that it would have been served sliced, english style. The baked potato was much too big,and really wasn't anything special. I missed the yorkshire pudding. The prime rib was fit for a Lyndon Johnson,or a Yosemite Sam!! I could barely eat one third of it. I had ordered it medium rare;it was more like ultra rare, and then on the inside,it varied from medium rare,to medium-to well done. The waitress,(with her dramatic and Hollywood style acting job,)made it only more confusing for me. The coffee was bitter. As a steak house,Mortons can't compare to the "Pub",in Cherry Hill,New Jersey!! Now there is a Real steak house!! Oh how I miss The "Senator Steak House"!!!!

My spouse and I had dinner at Morton's last December.
I agree it was on the pricey side and portions fit for
"ten men," but the porterhouse steaks were excellent,
perhaps the best I have ever had. Cooked to perfection
excellent vegetables and a decent Idaho potato. Desert
and coffee, most agreeable. Finally, I truly loved the non stop Frank Sinatra music. Maybe you would like Ruth Chriss or Barberians.
cordially, D.T.

Yes,the prime rib at Mortons was really superb. But the prices are just impossible! The baked potato was good, but I have had better. I used to go to Carmens. The presentation was too Hollywood. Though enjoyable,it distracted from the dinner. The prime rib(which we all had) is worth the price, but it was just too much. Certainly the horseradish was great. The Sinatra songs were nice. Although for really legendary prime rib,(and the steaks are worth the trip) "The Pub",Steakhouse in Cherry Hill,New Jersey,it is an experience you won't forget. I have relatives there, and "The Pub" is a place that my family and I never fail to go to,each time we are down in the area. The salad bar there is a real treat! If Mortons would serve their prime rib in the english style,it would be even better. Also, the steak knives don't really do that good a job. The meat is difficult to slice. I didn't have dessert at Mortons. I do miss The Senator Steakhouse,it had fantastic steaks. I still love the diner.

There are a few things I don't like about Mortons Steakhouse:The service:mannered and very manipulative!! Also, the steaks at $43.00-$47.00-(and upwards) this is abit of a rip-off!! Why didn't they serve the prime rib with a yorkshire pudding?! Plus, the steak knives are quite useless!! Sure, the prime rib is fantastic, but at $45.00-a person? The least they could do is slice it in english style. And I wish they would drop the Hollywood recitation!! It reminds me of some Woody Allen routine!! Plus, the meat wasn't medium rare (not all of it) The way it is served(like a 50 pound chunk of beef) reminds me of "Rocky". "Yo,Adrian, here is another 90 pounds of beef-prime rib-I'll beat it up!!!" (:Burgess Meredith:"Rock,ah,too bad I'm not playing the Penguin!!")

Marc,

I got a chuckle out of your three versions of the Morton's review -- reminds me of how I sometimes write an initial *frank* version, then go back & edit a couple of times (usually becoming more tactful, but not always). I feel like we've had a glimpse into your mind. :-)

Best,
