Thai basil

Has anyone found Thai basil in T.O. and if so, where?
I tried my local T & T - no luck.

I hate it when people say "make your own", when asked about where to eat a specific dish,...but this time of year it is so easy to buy the Thai Basil plant, and it grows like a weed.
I always have a huge pot outside, and plant the various basil's each summer.
Basil doesn't keep well once it is cut, and this way I have fresh basil on hand.
It grows so rapidly that I am continually hacking at the plants so they shouldn't go to seed.
Basil will also grow well inside as long as you have a sunny spot.

I find your average supermarkets (Loblaws, Dominion) carry it nowadays. Usually located along with the overpriced plastic-packed herbs.

Would definitely agree with the above comments and head to Chinatown for guaranteed availability and better price.

easy to find in chinatown grocers. they are packed in styrofoam trays alon with other southeast asian herbs.

Vientiane (2 Bradstock Rd) is near Weston Road and Sheppard. They have it and other Thai foodstuffs. It's the only Thai/Lao run grocery in Toronto that I know. I miss the days when it was much more conviently located on Spadina. Their phone is 416-743-2911 to check inventory before you go.

Try Spadina Ave, the stores on the east side just north of Dundas always carry it.

There are several stores in the St. Lawrence Market (Jarvis & Front) that sell thai basil. One is on the lower level, across from the Chinese food takeout counter.

East end Chinatown, Gerrard and Broadview, grocery stores usually always have it.

Other hard to find asian treats as well, like galangal, garlic chives and much more.
