Unfortunately, the food in distillery (i.e, the restaurants) is generally overpriced and underwhelming..there are some smaller bakeries/sandwich type places that have better quality, but not maybe what you are searching for if you want more of a restaurant feeling..now, things may be better now that Jason R. is back as executive chef...but no guarantee! If you want to eat near the distillery district, there are some good restaurants in Cabbagetown, on Queen Street E. and further south on Front Street...

Second the mediocrity of the Distillery District restaurants. Have been to the Broiler Room as well as the Pure Spirits Oyster Bar (the one I believe the original post referred to). The Broiler Room is passable fare but not very original.

Pure Spirits is just very utilitarian - went there for a birthday once and even though the restaurant was half-full found the service to be lacking in prescence while the food was average at best.
Very much enjoyed both Eggplant and Toba which are on the King East area. Note that Eggplant is in a slightly higher price range.

Not too far from the distillery, at King East and Sherbourne is a small place called Toba - really love it there, good food, decent wine list, great service.

For oysters, check out Starfish at Adelaide and Jarvis on the east side. Not that far from the Distillery Diz.

hurrah! i support this recommendation, although it's not round the corner from the distillery district.

if you like a salty start and nice metallic clean finish they have some new zealanders in right now.

I second those new zealanders and recommend the Galway flats from Ireland. My friend and I had dinner there last Saturday and we polished off 50 oysters between the two of us. We sampled the world and those were our favourites (this time around). The distrillery is only a short cab away so Starfish can definitely be an option for dinner.
