Tacoma: Chinese & Italian??

I may be going to Tacoma on business within the next 2-3 weeks. Can anyone recommend good Chinese and Italian restaurants? I'd also be looking for New York-style pizza, too. Thanks!!

  1. Try Monsoon for Chinese and, Grazie for Italian.

    1. Chinese & Italian are probably not your best bets in Tacoma. Chinese? Everythings a big disappointment in Tacoma if you've eaten in the ID. Italian? There is a new Rest on Proctor called Europa that people seem to like a lot- don't know if it is strictly Italian. I would suggest Vietnamese (on 38th street there a a lot of restaurants) or south Tacoma Way has a HUGE Korean community & LOTS of Yakiniku restaurants that are quite good! There, you grill your meat at the table, dip in sauce, roll it up & eat!! YUM YUM YUM Don't know why more people aren't into Korean food it's very very good.

      1. Mama Stortini's Italian Restaurant is pretty good.

Rock Pasta Brick Oven Pizza is good as well.

        1. No such thing as New York-style pizza in the PNW
that's coming from a NYer whose been looking here for ten years

          1. re: brazzzi

Yea! the PNW shucks for NY style Pizza. Some of the pizza's served in the PNW wouldn't be served to a dog in NY.

          2. The best Italian in Tacoma is just a few minutes away in Gig Harbor at Marco's. Best Chinese is also out in Gig Harbor at Hunan Garden. However, if you want some wonderful asian food try the East West Cafe by the Tacoma Mall or LeLe's on Martin Luthern King Way and East 11th in Tacoma. The cook at LeLe's was the original cook at East West. Both are very good and fresh.

Based on this review, I went to try out East West on Tacoma Mall Blvd. Disappointed. The food was more West than it was East. I'm oriental (filipino) and I think this place caters to the american pallette. The setting was intimate and the portion size was very generous. I just hoped to taste something better than what I expected. Personally, I'd rather take a 2 min walk across to Sushi Revolution (I always get the seared salmon and crazy jalapeno..good stuff). I'm still in search of the good stuff here in the Tacoma area, having moved here from Chicago a year ago. I'm gettin pretty desparate out here.

            2. DelBrocco's recently opened off 6th Avenue and Proctor (Tacoma; North End) and serves NYstyle pizza along side their philly cheesesteaks and hoagies. IMHO, their pizza is a good subsitute for the real thing and they sell it by the slice. We used to never eat pizza out here after we moved from the East Coast but now it's back in our weekly diet.

              1. If you're jonesing for Italian, Primo Grill in Tacoma off 6th is very, very nice, and while the pizza's not NY style, it's lovely - thin, chewy to the tooth crust, cooked in an apple wood-fired oven. Give it a shot - it's NW pizza. You gotta have a reason to be happy to visit back east....OH, and Rock Wood Fired Pizza has wood-fired ovens that heat up to 900 degrees and they do a very decent job, too.

                1. I'd stick to East West or LeLe's rather than go to the Gig Harbor Chinese restaurants. East West is an amalgamation of Singaporian/Mandarin/Cantonese but is better than the "traditional" Chinese restaurants in Gig Harbor. I haven't found Chinese restaurants in the Tacoma area anything like Hong Kong or even San Francisco restaurants.

                  1. re: jacksns

I couldn't agree more. East West is the way to go!!

                  2. I know the original post is old, but I agree with another poster. I am a New Yorker and have not found NY style pizza since I've been here. I make my own.
