Has anyone ever heard anything about or tried a pokey little hidden away restaurant called CHINA GARDEN, located in Little India (Gerrard Street). It says it serves hakka food, but I could not see anyone in there when I walked past. I would be fantastic to not have to trek to Scarborough or Missisauga to get my fix of chilli chicken, manchurian beef and the like. Please let me know if you have any experience with this place!

Lets see, you walk past China Garden and wonder if the food is any good.

Even though you live nearby, you want someone else to try the food and then submit a Chowhound report.

Why not just visit the restaurant yourself and give us your report?

Good grief...I didn't want to bore everyone by explaining all this minutia. I know it sounds bad - but the only reason I asked (instead of just trying it myself) is that my mother had requested hakka takeaway for Mother's Day and I was debating whether to take a chance and get something from this place on Sunday without knowing if it was any good or not (hence, trying to tap into our Chowhound knowledge vein first), or driving well out of our way to get it from someplace that we already know is good (ie. Lin Garden).

If it was for my own self, I would of course just take a chance and try it...but since it's for Mother's Day...I didn't want to risk getting food that would be disppointing & without having given it a trial run before.

And yes, it's in the back of that wee little "mall", which has Chandni Chowk near the front.

Hmm well I personally haven't tried it, but we sat down, and heard other people who had just left say they were sorry they went, and decided to go to chandni chowk instead.

I dunno if that helps..but thats what I know about that place.

For Pete's sake, this is not an unreasonable request. Isn;t this why Chopwhound exists? Maybe someone else has tired it and he wants to know if its worth it. Considering our on-goinbg debate about Hakka in the GTA they've got a perfectly legitimate right to ask!

Well, Eastender, since you walk by the restaurant frequently, why not try the restaurant yourself and give us a report instead.

Is this the restaurant thats inside that little mall?

There's a music store, jewellery store, Chandni Chowk (a restaurant) in that mall too.

I think theres no harm posting to find out if someone HAS tried it and getting an opinion from other likeminded people.
