Meyer lemons...what makes them so special? Do they taste better than regular lemons?

Meyer lemons are thought to be a sterile hybrid of a regular Eureka lemon and a tangerine, so they are usually seedless and have a milder, sweeter flavour -- like lemon juice with a bit of tangerine juice mixed in, as you'd suspect.

They seem to be the hoohah thing in the states these days, as every recipe I read from there doesn't just say "lemon" but it specifies "Meyer lemon". But they are nice, less in-your-face than a regular lemon
.and at that price I could make a whole bunch of Meyer lemon bourbon sours...mmmm....

Citrus juice freezes really well -- that "not from concentrate" juice? It's all previously juiced and frozen and then stored until needed. I also juice a whole load of limes in season for margaritas later and have done the same with lemons for bourbon sours...I may be an alcoholic, but I'm an industrious one ;-)

If you want to discuss where to find Meyer Lemons in Toronto, this is the right place for it. But general discussion of the qualities and history of Meyer Lemons belongs on the General Topics board, becaust that's not specific to Toronto, and would be of interest to all hounds.

If you were looking specifically for Meyer Lemon recipes, you might also post on the Home Cooking board.

Any further off topic discussion on Toronto will be removed, so please do repost appropriately and finish the conversation. Feel free to post a heads up link back here so people can find your new thread easily.
