Hi,

I will be working in the Hamilton/Dundas/Ancaster area for the next several months and am looking for recommendations of restaurants there. I am hoping to find some nice spots for a quick dinner for myself, and to entertain clients.

I am looking for all types of cusine.

Thanks, Arthur

The only place that I've ever eaten in Hamilton is "The Snooty Fox." A pub-type place with great wings but, not the kind of place to take clients...

After Hamilton has come to include Dundas, Ancaster and the like there are many great restaurants - 1010 Bistro in West Dale (french eats in Hamilton), Il Fiasco on Locke St. (electic Hamilton), Faloney's of Ancaster (steak house, not inexpensive, but great) The Old Mill for buffet (Ancaster), One Duke (downtown pub - great ribs!)Rousseau House in Ancaster has a good tapas menu, and classic fine dining french upstairs. Hope this helps

Hamilton's dining spots have been discussed before on this list. As it sounds like you are looking for a number of nice places to eat, I would recommend the following places:

The Ancaster Old Mill
Room 41 (King William and Hughson)
La Spaghett (Upper James)
Rousseau House (Ancaster)
Il Fiasco (Locke St.)
The Bar on Locke (Bistro-style on Locke St.)
Matsu Sushi (Dundas)
Mediterraneo (Burlington - excellent foods, nice atmosphere)

If you're clients are beer connaisseurs...Chester's on King St. (downtown), I will recommend you eat before or after going there as the pub fare is merely passable, but with over 250 beers available, there's always something interesting to try...

Speaking of Room 41, they have introduced an International Wine Connoisseur Series dinner which focuses on a different region each month (Latin America for March, Australia for April). For $50 per person, you get 4 courses, including coffee and dessert, and 3 glasses of wine. Great value for the money! Check out the link below - and click on News and Events.

I agree. The orange beef is a "must have" at Le Chinois. It's almost always the first item that's picked when we are choosing our shared meal as a group.

As mentioned in earlier threads, La Cantina has excellent Italian food. There is a casual side with a wood-burning pizza oven, bar, and patio in the summer and a more formal dining room. Check out the link below. It is located in the downtown area.

Another place just outside the city is Dody's Oyster Bar & Grill in Waterdown. More than just oysters, it has some very, very good soups, pastas, fish, and steak. The desserts are made in-house and are worth a try if you have a sweet tooth. The chef here clearly has some talent. All my dinners here have been consistently excellent.
