A Little Review: Sauvignon
We decided to try Sauvignon in the Beaches last night. ( 1862 Queen St.E ) We've think that we would rate this restaurant a 8-8.5 out of 10.
The service was excellent. The food was pretty good ( but, it did not blow our minds. ) I had the Maple Quail, and he had the Goat Cheese/Eggplant with Balsamic for our starters. For our mains, I had the chicken dish for the night, and he had the Lamb Shank. The presentation of the food was fabulous, but it did not taste as great as it looked. Not to say that it wasn't good, it just didn't have the "wow factor!"
The dessert was excellent and the best part of the meal ( other than the wine!) We shared the Orange and Ginger Creme Brulee. Yum!
For the two of us, the bill came to $120.00 before tip. A good French restaurant, but likely not the best in the city.....

In their defence, they have never claimed, or aspired, to be the best in the city--just a good neighbourhood resto, which is what they are (tho that's not too hard in the wasteland of the Beach). Food is generally good but does not try to be spectacular. They have their off nights -- one night all our plates seemed to be swimming in too-thin wine sauce -- but it's generally consistent, the wine selection is good with some surprises, and the service and atmosphere are nice, and for many of the regulars it's not too far from home.
