Hi, My family and I will be vacationing in Toronto and Ottowa in August. We need recommendations for restaurants that can accommodate our children (ages 6 and almost 8) who are very fussy eaters. Please let me know about restaurants that serve fruit & yogurt dishes and pbj sandwiches. Thanks!

This board is for discussing chow local to Toronto.

Desperate Mom, we recommend you post the Ottawa portion of your question to the Canada board, which is where Ottawa chow gets discussed.

Chez Cora! A popular breakfast chain serving fruits, smoothies, crepes, waffles, pancakes, etc. Your kids would love this place.

I thought that it was an average restaurant with somewhat high prices . breakfast for 2 adults can cost $20.

I suppose any hotel brunch would be alright for your kids.

or bring a bottle of peanut butter and buy bread at any bakery.
or why not just go to the supermarket and eat at a park or hotel room.

I like the Nickels restaurant chain. They have peanut butter and jam wrap/crepes on the kids menu. I like their onion rings. Your kids would like this place.

Your children are not fussy eaters, they are just bad eaters. My wife and I, and now our (four young)children by training, are fussy eaters. We have an aversion to crap. We travel with a plug-in cooler, (they are about $100), toaster and teapot and bring along at least breakfast. We avoid hotel or restaurant breafasts, which tend to range from bad to disgusting, save all kinds of money and even time too. I suggest that you do the same.

I'm not sure about the specifics of these places since I don't often actually look at the kids menu but I can tell you that the following definitely have kids menus:

The Boulevard Cafe on Harbord Street has fabulous Latin American food, a great patio, and a kids menu - http://boulevardcafe.sites.toronto.com/. It is located in the Annex, near the University of Toronto and fairly central to downtown.

Alice Fazooli's - Italian & Seafood place that has pretty good adult food too. Located in the Entertainment District on Adelaide Street

Shopsy's Deli on Front Street in front of the Hummingbird Centre. My parents took me there when I was a kid and it is still a Toronto landmark.

The Pickle Barrel - the downtown location is closed right now but the Yonge/Eglinton location is open. Their kids menu is online at www.picklebarrel.ca

Mr. Greenjeans in the Eaton Centre would do in a pinch - they have a kids menu and their regular one is so huge I'm sure they'd make you just about anything. Tons of kids go there.
