Are you looking for a chef with a name for a function that would require a respected name.... or are you searching for a quality caterer for a party?

If it's caterers you're after, I can highly recommend (have had their food, love their food) these folks.

Lisa Dupar Catering in Redmond. She does fabulous desserts (I've had several of hers, including a fabulous fruit tart with amazingly fresh blackberries IN THE WINTER... where she got them, not sure). I heard she's getting married this weekend, so she might not be available immediately. On top of being a great cook, she's a fantastic person too.

I can also give high raves to Lowell-Hunt Catering (in Woodinville and Seattle). They do wonderful things with wild game (I had an outstanding squab once at a dinner at their Seattle store). Russell Lowell is a hunting enthusiast and even sponsors an annual hunting/gourmet eating trip called Elk Hunt... he cooks the catch in a tent at the hunting site...I've listed their link below.

I'm interested in hearing if other people have favorite caterers too.

Thanks to all, but, as I used to work in catering, I'm not actually interested in having some food brought in by a caterer. I'd like to have a person come to my house and cook a real meal from scratch, front to back...
Any ideas?

i attended an auction this summer where one of the auction items was an "executive chef demonstration and dinner" at someone's home. i can't vouch for the quality of this particular chef but at least it's a start - you know he's done something like this. chef: andre nguyen, of andre's eurasian bistro.

You could call some of the personal chef services and see if they would be willing to do a one night stand sort of thing. I think you would probably find quite a few that would be up for it.

I posted this before but it got deleted, I don't know why? I know of a very good personal chef who can come to your house and cook a meal from scratch for a wide range of people with a wide range of tastes. He can do very upscale or more homey, from Asian to Southern styles. He is a friend and a great guy. Please contact if interested and let him know your ideas.

Bertrand de Boutray, of Bertrand Chez Vous in Seattle, carries most of a kitchen in his car in case a client doesn't have the proper equipment to make a traditional five-course French meal (206-729-1554).

About a year ago or so, someone representing Four Star Private Chefs pitched a story to me about their service. She threw out the names of some respected chefs who were working for the service at the time (I know at least two of the chefs she mentioned -- John Neumark and Barbara Figueroa -- have since gotten other gigs, but it's possible that they work from time to time for private parties).
I'm not sure if they do one-time events, but it might be worth a shot. You could probably look up their number on qwestdex.com. Hope this helps.

What a polite and helpful reply, Mr. Moto.

Sonja, a friend and I do this sort of cooking quite a lot, but it's mainly by word of mouth. I'm pretty sure you don't want to pay our travel expenses from Texas, but I'd suggest calling a professional cooking school in your area and asking for some names. Just be sure to have them audition.
