Valrhona fix

Curtis Mar 9, 2005 04:20 PM

Does anyone know where I can get Valrhona chocolate in the downtown area? Seems like this brand is especially problematic to obtain.

I am looking for the same thing. Some larger Dominion used to carry the ready-to-eat Valrhona, but doesn't seem to do so anymore.

whole foods carry an array of decadent quality chocolates, including the prestigeous valrhona, el rey and callebaut.
pusateris also carry similar products, but their products are often overpriced, and the turnover rate is lower. personally, i prefer to get my choco fix from whole foods!
      hope that helps!

the valrohna at whole foods tends to big in large bulk slabs, a little harder to break up if you ask me (but teeth work).

magnolia on college street in little italy often (but not ALWAYS) has valrohna by the bar, and also in the tiny bite sized bars. i just bought my dad a huge 250g bar of 61% for $14.99

Giant slabs are perfectly fine, I need the chocolate both for baking and personal consumption :). Leave a chunk on the coffee table and shave pieces off when I get the urges.

"A chunk on the coffee table" wow -- that's decadent. If I did that I'd be worried about my dog poisoning himself from too much chocolate...not to mention my boyfriend.
I haven't seen big chunks, but Sun Valley on Danforth regularly has the chocolate bars...I know because my boyfriend gets it there regularly. If he got himself a big chunk, I'd prolly never scrape him off the ceiling.

At Vincenzo's in Waterloo (sort of like the Pusateri's of Waterloo), I can get a 1 Kg block of Valrhona 70% Guarjada for 29.99, so just under 3.00 per 100g. I was hoping I could get something similar when I got back to the Toronto area.

I _THINK_ that Lively Life, in the south St. Lawrence carries it. It is on the bottom floor, just by Rubes. They have slab and cocoa, if I recall. I can check this Saturday, let me know.

Williams Sonoma carries their entire range; both bars and cocoa. there are 3 store locations:

            Bloor and Yonge

            Sherway Gardens

Le Gourmand at Queen/Spadina sells the small bars for "personal consumption".

Why not try buying online at http://www.chocodirect.com/site_en/sh....
Go to their sale/clearance section and most of the selection there is 50% off (dated November 2006). They only ship to Canada.

Great deals for valrhona and Côte d'Or and Poulain.

Example: Bar 'Ampamakia' 64%. Was $6.20. Now only $3.00! And their small "caribe" bars are only 65 cents.
